A year ago, I was very nervous. I took a tiny step and started something small: my idea was to create a space to collaborate with others to play with story ideas, test out characters, and give my imagination a bit of a workout. I called it Story Jam - because it is far from serious and a bit of a treat.
Twelve months later, and it's now one of my absolute favourite parts of the month.
I have a pile of drawings from where we’ve soared through the skies, gone under the sea, met magical pets, explored spooky woods, had a festive time, and wandered through the wilderness. We’ve created characters with oddball accessories, built their homes, and met their best friends… And each session has been joyful - you should see the fab stories others come up with.
In short, Story Jam is a creative playground
It’s not about making polished work, it’s about scribbling ideas, digging up story seeds, and having fun while we do it. Whether you’re a professional illustrator, a curious beginner, a writer needing a fresh angle, or someone who just wants to indulge in their creative side this for you.
🖍️ Draw, write, doodle, think out loud.
🖍️ Bring your current characters or invent new ones.
🖍️ No pressure. Just creative prompts, camaraderie, and shared laughter.
This Month: Pick & Mix (22nd June, 4pm BST on Zoom)
To celebrate one year of Story Jam, I’m planning a Pick & Mix session. I’ll revisiting some of the my favourite prompts from the past year so we can combine them in weird, wonderful new ways and see what stories emerge.
And I’m inviting you to jump in, especially if you’ve been Story Jam-curious for a while. Come along and help me celebrate a whole year of ideas, drawings, and delightful nonsense. This one is free to join.
Come Jam with me 💛
You can book your spot here or reply to this post if you’ve got questions. Everyone is welcome to this celebration session. Future session will go back to being behind a paywall, but I’ll be hosting replays here as well as on Patreon so you can choose how you wish to join in.
Here’s to another year of stories.
Hope to see you in the Jam.
